Manage cookies and integrations on your careers site

Ask candidates for cookie consent, let them change their mind later, and control which integrations may set cookies.

Tools you add to your careers site, such as Google Analytics, a YouTube video, or the Apply with LinkedIn button, can set cookies in a candidate's browser. The CareersHub in Tellent Recruitee lets you ask candidates for consent before any of them loads, let candidates change their answer later, and decide which integrations need permission.

Important: We strongly advise consulting with a lawyer about configuring your careers site and including cookie consent. You are solely responsible for the compliance of your careers site.

Note: Tools you add to your careers site, such as Google Analytics, a YouTube video, or the Apply with LinkedIn button, can set cookies in a candidate's browser. Ask candidates for cookie consent

When cookie consent is on, every new visitor sees a banner before any optional cookies load.

Go to the CareersHub > Settings > Cookies.

In the Cookie consent panel, switch on Enable cookie consent request for visitors.

3. In the Cookie consent panel, switch on Enable cookie consent request for visitors.

The setting saves automatically and a Cookie consent confirmation appears. You don't need to publish anything.

When consent is on, a green checkmark appears next to Consent banner and Cookie preferences section further down the panel. When consent is off, both show a gray cross instead.

Preview the banner

Next to Consent banner, click Preview to see the banner exactly as a candidate would, with your own wording and your own list of providers. Nothing you do in the preview affects the live site.

Important: Switching Enable cookie consent request for visitors off doesn't just hide the banner. It also overrides the Require consent setting on every individual provider, so all of your integrations and their cookies load immediately for every visitor. Leave consent on unless you're certain you don't need it.

Tip: Set up your providers and your wording before you switch the toggle on. Everything in the Cookies tab can be edited while consent is off, and the first candidate to arrive afterward sees the finished version.

Choose the banner's button layout

At the bottom of the Cookie consent panel, Consent dialog button layout controls how many buttons candidates get.

With the Two-button layout, candidates see Agree to all plus one button that changes with their choices. It reads Agree to necessary while no optional cookies are selected, and Agree to selected once at least one is.

With the Three-button layout, candidates see Agree to necessary, Agree to selected, and Agree to all as three separate buttons. Agree to selected stays grayed out until they select an optional cookie.

Note: This setting is grayed out while Enable cookie consent request for visitors is off.

Let candidates change their answer later

Candidates who decline a cookie need a way to accept it later. The Cookie preferences section adds the same set of choices to a page of your careers site, so candidates can update their answer at any time.

Add the section to a page

In the CareersHub, open the page where you want to add the preferences, such as your cookie policy or privacy page. If you don't have one yet, see Create a page for legal content.

Click Add section, then open the Section library.

Choose Cookie preferences and insert it.

Click Publish to make the page live.

The Cookies tab keeps track of this for you. Under Cookie preferences section it lists every page the section appears on, after Cookie preferences section is displayed on:. If it's on no page yet, you'll see No cookie preferences section displayed yet on any page instead, with a Browse pages button and a link to How to create a legal page?

Note: If you add the section while cookie consent is switched off, the section editor warns you that Site visitors won't be able to change their cookie preferences until you enable this feature in the CareersHub's cookie settings. The section is still there — it just can't do anything until consent is on.

Help candidates find it

Add a link to your navigation or footer so candidates can return to their choices from any page.

In the CareersHub, edit your navigation or footer for a specific page.

Go to Links and click Edit.

In the Link dropdown, select Cookie banner to reopen the cookie banner from any page, or select the page with your Cookie preferences section to send candidates to your cookie policy or privacy page.

Click Publish.

For more on links, see Creating and publishing pages.

Tip: Put the link in the footer. It's where people look for cookie and privacy links, and a footer link appears on every page of your site at once.

Write and translate what candidates read

You can change every word in the banner, the consent form, and the placeholders, in each language your careers site uses.

In the Cookies tab, click Translate cookie consent.

In the Languages dialog, pick a language along the top. (If your site is in one language, there's nothing to pick.)

Edit the text under the three groups:

  • Consent banner — the dialog's title and message, the More options and Hide options links, and the Agree to all, Agree to selected, and Agree to necessary button labels.

  • Cookie consent form — the Necessary cookies and Optional cookies headings, the explanation of why necessary cookies can't be switched off, and the Show more and Show less links.

  • Placeholders — what candidates see in place of content they haven't consented to, such as the But first, cookies ;) title on a blocked video and the Update cookies link.

4. Save your changes.

Note: Any field you leave empty falls back to our default wording for that language, so you can translate as much or as little as you want.

Important: Changing your cookie settings asks candidates to consent again. Anyone whose stored consent is older than your most recent change to the Cookies tab — or to any integration — sees the banner on their next visit. Their previous answer no longer covers your current setup. A small wording fix re-prompts all your visitors, so group your edits where you can.

Manage cookie providers

Cookie providers are the tools candidates give or refuse consent to. Each provider is a tool or company that sets cookies on your site, and each one has its own entry in the consent form.

The Cookie providers panel, below Cookie consent, lists them. Your own company appears first, for the cookie that stores the candidate's consent itself, followed by every integration you've connected, alphabetically.

Note: Only integrations you've actually connected appear here. Connect a new one and it joins the list; disable it and it drops out of the consent form.

Edit a provider

1. Click Edit on the provider you want to change.

2. Under Consent settings, choose Require consent or Don't ask for consent.

3. Edit the Cookie provider description — the explanation candidates read next to that provider in the consent form. Use the language tabs to write it in each of your site's languages.

4. Click Save.

A provider set to Don't ask for consent carries an orange Don't ask for consent badge in the list, so you can spot them without opening each one. While you're editing, a notice tells you exactly what that choice means for that provider — for example, that Google Analytics and its cookies will load immediately.

Note: Your own company's entry works differently. It covers the cookie that remembers a candidate's consent, it's filed under Necessary cookies, and it has no Consent settings — a candidate can't decline it without breaking the consent form itself. You can still edit its description.

Tip: The default descriptions already name each provider's own cookie policy and link to it. If you rewrite one, keep that link.

Manage integrations

The Integrations tab is where you connect tools and see which of them set cookies.

Go to the CareersHub > Settings > Integrations. Every integration available for your site is listed, whether it's connected or not.

Each row tells you where it stands:

  • A green Integrated badge means it's connected and live.

  • A cookie icon next to the description means this integration sets cookies on your careers site. It appears only once the integration is connected.

  • An Integrate button means it isn't connected yet. For some integrations — Apply with LinkedIn and Apply with Indeed — this opens your Tellent Recruitee account settings in a new tab, because they're switched on there rather than in the CareersHub.

  • A Hidden badge on Apply with LinkedIn or Apply with Indeed means the integration is connected but its button has been excluded from your job pages.

Change or disable an integration

1. Click the gear icon at the end of a connected integration's row.

2. Change its settings, then click Save.

3. To switch it off, click Disable integration in the bottom-left of the dialog.

When you open an integration that sets cookies, a notice at the top says so — [name] adds cookies to your careers site — and points you to the Cookies tab to edit its description. Integrations that don't set any cookies say so instead, with a green cookie icon.

Note: Connecting an integration for the first time may ask you to accept a short disclaimer confirming you've checked the partner's terms and that Tellent Recruitee isn't responsible for how the partner processes data. Click Accept and integrate to continue.

Add a custom integration

If your site is set up for it, Add custom integration in the top-right lets you run your own HTML or script on your careers site.

1. Click Add custom integration.

2. Give it an Integration name. This is the name candidates see in the consent form, so make it something they'd recognize.

3. Paste your code under Integration code.

4. Click Integrate.

Important: A custom integration doesn't ask for consent on its own. After you save it, go to the Cookies tab, find it in Cookie providers, set it to Require consent, and write its description. Until you do, its script and any cookies it sets load immediately for every visitor.

Note: Custom integrations are listed as Custom integration with a grey badge in both the Integrations and Cookie providers lists. Unlike the built-in integrations, a custom one can be deleted outright — the dialog warns that This action can not be undone.

What candidates see when they decline

When a candidate declines a cookie, the content that needs it is replaced with a placeholder that lets them change their mind.

A video shows But first, cookies ;) with a short explanation and a Cookie preferences button.

An Apply with LinkedIn, Apply with Indeed, or Apply with XING button is replaced by a short note saying that option is unavailable, with an Update cookies link.

Every one of these opens the consent form directly on the provider in question, so a candidate can accept just that one and carry on.

Tip: The placeholder wording is yours to change — it's the Placeholders group in the Translate cookie consent dialog. It's worth reading once as a candidate would, because it's the message people see at the exact moment something doesn't work.

Example

You've added Google Analytics to your careers site and want consent in place before candidates notice.

Go to the CareersHub > Settings > Integrations. Google Analytics shows a green Integrated badge and a cookie icon, which confirms that it sets cookies and belongs in your consent form.

Open the Cookies tab. Under Cookie providers, click Edit on Google Analytics, leave Consent settings on Require consent, shorten the default description, and click Save.

Open your cookie policy page, click Add section, select Cookie preferences from the Section library, and publish the page. Then add a footer link to it.

Back in the Cookies tab, click Preview to check the banner, select Two-button layout, and switch on Enable cookie consent request for visitors.

The next candidate to arrive sees the banner. If they decline analytics, Google Analytics doesn't set cookies until they agree, and the footer link means they can change their choice at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to publish anything for cookie settings to take effect?

No. Everything in the Cookies and Integrations tabs applies to your live site as soon as you save it. The one exception is the Cookie preferences section, which lives on a page, so that page needs publishing.

Why don't I see one of my integrations in the Cookie providers list?

Only connected integrations appear there. Check the Integrations tab for a green Integrated badge. Apply with LinkedIn and Apply with Indeed also drop out of the list if their button has been excluded from your job pages, since there's nothing left to set a cookie.

What happens to candidates who already consented when I change a setting?

They're asked again on their next visit. Any change to your cookie settings or to an integration makes stored consent from before that change out of date.

Can a candidate refuse necessary cookies?

No. The one necessary cookie stores their consent choice itself, so refusing it would leave nothing to remember. It's listed under Necessary cookies in the consent form with an explanation, and it has no switch.

Does turning cookie consent off delete anyone's preferences?

No, but it stops honoring them. With consent off, every integration loads immediately regardless of what individual candidates chose or how you set Consent settings.

Can I use a different cookie consent tool instead?

You can add one as a custom integration, but the CareersHub won't know about it — your integrations will keep following the Cookies tab.
