Most hiring teams need candidates to agree to something before they apply — a privacy policy, a data retention period, or permission to keep a CV on file. Legal agreements are the checkboxes that collect that agreement. You write them once in the CareersHub, and they appear at the bottom of the application form for every job on your careers site.
Every legal agreement you add is mandatory. A candidate who doesn't tick all of them can't submit an application.
⚠️ Important: We strongly advise consulting a lawyer about how you configure your careers site and which legal agreements you include. You're solely responsible for the compliance of your careers site.
Add a legal agreement
Legal agreements are site-wide. Any agreement you add appears on the application form for every published job.
In Recruitee, go to CareersHub > Edit pages & settings.
On your CareersHub dashboard, click Settings, then open the Legal agreements tab.
Click Add new.
Enter your text in the Agreement checkbox label field. Candidates see this text next to the checkbox, so write it as a statement they are agreeing to.
For example:
"I agree that my personal data may be stored and processed for the purpose of this application."
Click Done.
A toast confirms Agreement created, and the agreement appears in the list. It is live on your careers site immediately. You do not need to publish it separately.
Tip: Use the toolbar above the field to link to your legal page. Click the link button, then select a page from your careers site or paste an external URL. Linking to a separate privacy policy makes it easier for candidates to read the full text. See Create a page for legal content
The toolbar also lets you use bold, italics, underlining, strikethrough, and text color. You cannot add bulleted or numbered lists in this field, so keep each agreement to a sentence or two rather than adding a full policy.
Note: Add each consent as a separate agreement and keep each one self-contained. Candidates must accept all legal agreements, so combining unrelated consents in one checkbox can make it unclear what they are accepting.
Write your agreement in more than one language
If your careers site uses multiple languages, the agreement editor shows a tab for each available language. Your default language is marked Default.
Click Add new, or click the edit icon for an existing agreement.
Select a language tab and enter the agreement text for that language.
Repeat these steps for each language you want to support, then click Done.
You do not have to fill in every language. If an agreement does not have text in the language a candidate is browsing in, candidates see the default-language version instead. Make sure the default-language version is always completed.
Note: The languages available here come from your company’s language settings. They are not configured separately for each agreement. To change the available languages, go to Settings > Languages in CareersHub and follow the link to your company language settings. See Localize Recruitee to work with multiple languages.
Edit, reorder, or delete legal agreements
Your legal agreements are listed in Settings > Legal agreements.
Edit an agreement
Select the pencil icon for the agreement you want to change.
Update the text, then select Done.
Change the order
Use the up and down arrows next to each agreement to change its position in the list.
The order in the list determines the order in which the agreements appear on the application form.
Delete an agreement
Select the delete icon for the agreement, or open the agreement and select Delete.
Confirm that you want to delete the agreement.
Important: Check the agreement text and order before deleting or changing an agreement. Removing a legal agreement can affect the checkboxes candidates see on your application forms.
What candidates see
Legal agreements appear as checkboxes on the application form. Candidates must accept the required agreements before they can submit an application. The agreement text appears next to each checkbox. If you add a link, candidates can select it to open the related legal page or external URL.
Preview your application form after adding an agreement. This helps you check that the text is easy to read and that any links open the correct page.
Legal agreements vs. Legal screening questions
Legal agreements and Legal screening questions can both appear as consent checkboxes on an application form, but you configure them in different places.
Legal agreements
Configure legal agreements in CareersHub > Settings > Legal agreements.
Use them for consent that should appear across your careers site’s application forms.
Legal screening questions
Configure Legal screening questions in the application form for an individual job or job template. Use them for consent or requirements that apply only to specific jobs.
Legal screening questions with the answer type Legal also appear under Legal Agreements on the application form.

A recruitment agency hires for several clients and wants every applicant to agree to two things:
Their application can be processed for the vacancy they applied for.
Their profile can be kept on file for future opportunities.
They add two legal agreements:
I agree that the personal data in my application may be processed for this vacancy, as described in the [privacy policy].
I agree that my profile may be kept for 24 months so I can be considered for future vacancies.
The agency links privacy policy in the first agreement to a CareersHub page that contains the full policy. Candidates can open the link and read the details without leaving the careers site.
One of the agency’s clients also requires candidates for a specific role to accept a confidentiality agreement. Because this requirement applies to one job rather than every job on the careers site, the agency adds it as a screening question with the Legal answer type on that job’s application form.
This lets the agency use legal agreements for site-wide consent and Legal screening questions for requirements that apply only to individual jobs.
