Add CAPTCHA to your careers site forms

Use invisible CAPTCHA to help reduce spam on your careers site's application and job alert forms.

Spam bots can submit fake applications and job alert subscriptions on your careers site. Invisible CAPTCHA helps reduce this automated traffic. It runs in the background, so candidates usually don't notice it.

Note: CAPTCHA is set per careers site in CareersHub, and it's turned on by default. You don't need to do anything to get protection — this article is for checking your current setting or changing it.

What is CAPTCHA?

CAPTCHA is a test that checks whether a visitor is a real person or a bot. It helps stop bots from submitting spam or creating fake profiles.

Your careers site uses an invisible CAPTCHA. It runs in the background and checks each submission for risk. Most candidates don't see anything. Only submissions that look risky get a challenge to solve.

Which forms are protected

When CAPTCHA is active, it protects both public-facing forms on your careers site:

  • Job application forms — the apply form on any job page

  • Job alert subscription forms — the sign-up form in a job alert section

One setting covers both. There's no way to protect one and not the other.

Note: CAPTCHA doesn't run inside the CareersHub editor. When you preview a page or test a form while editing, you won't see a challenge — that's expected, and it doesn't mean CAPTCHA is off on your live site.

Note: CAPTCHA only applies to applications submitted through your careers site form. Applications that come in through the job widget or the public API use a different submission path, so CAPTCHA won't be triggered for them.

To check whether CAPTCHA is active on your careers site:

Go to CareersHub > Settings.

Open the General tab.

Scroll to the Captcha section at the bottom of the page.

Check for the Active badge next to the Captcha heading. The Mode setting below it shows the selected option.

To turn CAPTCHA on or off:

Go to CareersHub > Settings.

Open the General tab.

Scroll to the Captcha section.

Under Mode, select the option you want:

  • Invisible — Only challenges higher risk applications. This is the default.

  • Disabled — Doesn't use CAPTCHA on either form.

Your choice saves as soon as you select it, and a confirmation appears. There's no separate Save button.

Important: Selecting Disabled removes bot protection from your application and job alert forms straight away. Expect an increase in spam submissions and fake candidate profiles. Only disable CAPTCHA if you have another way to filter that traffic.

How invisible CAPTCHA works for candidates

Here’s an example of what happens on your careers site when invisible CAPTCHA is enabled.

Priya finds a job on your careers site, fills in the application form, and submits it. In the background, CAPTCHA checks the submission and sees nothing unusual. Priya goes straight to the confirmation screen and doesn’t notice anything.

A few minutes later, a bot tries to submit the same form 200 times. CAPTCHA recognizes the unusual activity and shows a challenge that bots usually can’t solve. This helps keep those spam submissions out of your pipeline.

Frequently asked questions

Will candidates have to solve a puzzle to apply?

Rarely. Invisible CAPTCHA only shows a challenge when a submission looks risky. Most candidates apply without seeing one.

Can I turn CAPTCHA on for job alerts but off for applications?

No. The Mode setting applies to both forms on your careers site at once.

A candidate says they got an error when applying. Could CAPTCHA be the cause?

Possibly. If CAPTCHA can't verify a submission, the form asks the candidate to try again. Ask them to resubmit the form. If the error keeps happening, contact our support team.

Do I need to set up an account with a CAPTCHA provider?

No. CAPTCHA is built into your careers site. There are no keys to enter and nothing to configure beyond choosing the mode.

Does changing the mode affect applications already in my pipeline?

No. The setting only applies to new submissions from the moment you change it.

I can't find the Captcha section in my settings. What now?

Contact our support team. They can check your careers site's configuration.
