Every picture on your careers site — your logo, the photo inside a section, the image behind a headline, the little icon in the browser tab — is uploaded within the CareersHub editor. The upload window is the same everywhere, so once you've added one image you'll know how to add them all. What changes is where you start from, and that's what this article walks you through.
Note: Uploading images is part of editing your careers site. If someone else is already editing the same theme or section, the controls are locked until they finish.
File types and sizes
The same rules apply to every image you upload anywhere in CareersHub:
File types: JPG, PNG, and GIF
Maximum file size: 8 MB per file
If you pick another file type, the image will be rejected with Invalid file type; if your file is too big, you will get File is too large error.
Tip: Upload the highest-quality version you have. We optimize and resize images automatically when we serve them, so a large source file won't slow your site down — but a small, blurry one can't be improved after the fact.
Note: The social sharing image is the one exception — it accepts JPG, JPEG, and PNG only.
Upload an image
Wherever you're adding an image, the upload window works the same way.
Click Add image, Add images, or Upload logo, depending on where you are.
Drag your file onto the window, or click browse files to pick one from your device.
The image appears as a thumbnail once it's uploaded.
Click Done to confirm, or Cancel to discard.
Add alt text
Alt text is a short description that's shown if the image can't load, read aloud by screen readers, and used by search engines to understand your page.
In the upload window, select the thumbnail and type your description in the Image details panel on the right.
Note: Alt text is available for logos, images inside a section, and gallery images. It isn't available for background images, favicons, or social sharing images, because those aren't read as content.
Tip: Describe what the image shows, not that it's an image. Three colleagues at a standing desk is useful; photo1.jpg isn't.
Add your logo
Your logo lives in the page theme, in two places: the navigation bar at the top and the footer at the bottom. You set each one separately.
Important: Logos are part of the theme, not the page. Changing the logo changes it on every page that uses the same theme. The theme menu tells you how many pages that is.
Logo in the navigation
Open the page you want to edit in the CareersHub.
Hover over the navigation bar at the top of the page and click Edit theme navigation.
The theme menu opens on the right, with the Navigation panel expanded.
Under Logo, click Upload logo and choose your file.
Logo in the footer
In the same page, scroll to the footer and click it, or open Footer in the theme menu on the right.
Under Logo, click Upload logo and choose your file.
Resize the logo
Once a logo is uploaded, a slider appears underneath it. Drag it to set how much of the bar's height the logo fills. The logo keeps its proportions and is never stretched.
The logo is also capped at 200 pixels wide no matter how the slider is set, so a very wide logo stops growing before it reaches the edge of the bar.
Link the logo somewhere
By default the logo links to your careers site homepage. To send it somewhere else, click the link icon next to the Logo label and enter the destination. If your site has more than one language, you can set a different destination per language.
Note: In the footer, the link icon stays greyed out until you've uploaded a logo.
Recommended logo sizes
Logo with text in it: around 400 × 100 pixels
Logo without text, such as a symbol or monogram: around 100 × 100 or 200 × 200 pixels
Tip: Use a PNG with a transparent background, then check the logo against your navigation color.
Add an image inside a section
Images sit inside sections — an Image section for a single picture, a Gallery section for several, plus image blocks in other section types.
In the body of the page, click the section you want to change.
Click Add image (or Add/remove images in a gallery) and upload your file.
Click Done.
How wide the image will be
By default, section content is capped at 1152 pixels wide. You can change this per section: open the section menu, go to Section size and paddings, and set Content boundary to Full screen instead of Inset.
Tip: For a full-screen section, supply an image at least 1920 pixels wide so it stays sharp on large monitors.
Add a background image or video
Every section can have a background built from layers — you stack a color, gradient, image, or video, and each layer has its own settings. This is how you put a photo or a video behind your text.
In the body of the page, click the section and click Edit section.
Open the Backgrounds tab.
Click + to add a background layer, then choose Image, Video, Color, or Gradient.
Note: Every section starts with a Base color layer. You can hide it, but you can't delete or move it.
Background image
After adding an Image layer, click Add an image and upload your file. Then set:
Background image size — Fill stretches the image to cover the section and crops the overflow, Fit shows the whole image inside the section, and Full shows it at its own size.
Background image position — where the image sits vertically and horizontally within the section.
Section height is what decides how much of the image you see. In Section size and paddings, Minimum height offers S (a third of the screen), M (two thirds), L (the full screen), or a custom height you set with a slider.
Recommended background sizes
Desktop: 1920 × 1080 pixels
Mobile: 540 × 960 or 1080 × 1920 pixels
Background video
After adding a Video layer, click Add video and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link.
Important: You can't upload a video file to the CareersHub. Videos have to be hosted on YouTube or Vimeo and linked in.
Note: If the YouTube or Vimeo integration is switched off for your site, the matching option is disabled with the tooltip YouTube integration is disabled or Vimeo integration is disabled. Turn it on in Settings > Integrations.
The video is stretched to fill the section and centered, so anything near the edges may be cropped. Use a high-resolution video, since visitors will be watching on very different screens.
Tip: Videos don't always play on mobile devices. Add an image or color layer underneath the video layer as a fallback — the editor prompts you to do this with Provide video fallback.
Note: Videos on a Vimeo Basic account support a limited set of features. In background mode, the player controls stay visible.
Show a layer only on desktop or only on mobile
Each layer has a Visibility setting with three options: all devices, desktop only, or mobile only.
This is how you serve a different background to phones. Add two image layers, upload a wide image to one and a tall image to the other, then set one to desktop and the other to mobile.
Reorder and hide layers
Drag a layer by its handle to move it up or down the stack — layers higher in the list sit in front. Use the visibility toggle on a layer to hide it without deleting it.
Add a favicon
The favicon is the small icon shown in the browser tab next to your page title.
In CareersHub, go to Settings.
On the General tab, scroll to Favicon.
Under Upload your icon, upload your image.
Check the Preview above to see how it looks in a browser tab.
Note: The favicon applies to your whole careers site. You can't set a different one for an individual page.
Tip: Use a square image of at least 64 × 64 pixels but keep in mind that favicons are displayed very small so it's generally better to not use large files, as that may impact the loading time of your careers site.
